Geopolitical events can move markets quickly, but understanding what matters most takes context. In this conversation, Ben Vaske talks with Major General (Ret.) James “Spider” Marks of Academy Asset Management about the fragile ceasefire between Iran, Israel, and the U.S., what safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz could mean for oil markets, and why the path forward may depend on validation, sustained pressure, and what happens next across the region.

Major General (Ret.) James A. “Spider” Marks is Head of Geopolitical Strategy and an Academy Senior Advisory Board Member. He is the Founder and President of The Marks Collaborative, an advisory for corporate leader development, education, and training, and has led entrepreneurial efforts in global primary research and national security. Marks served more than 30 years in the Army, holding every command position from infantry platoon leader to commanding general, and served as the senior intelligence officer during the LA Riots, the Balkans, Korea, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He concluded his military career as Commanding General of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and School at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He is also a national security contributor to CNN and a member of the Military Intelligence Hall of Fame.
