New initiative combines financial incentives, flexible custody options, and hands-on transition assistance to help independent advisors protect client relationships and position their firms for growth

Omaha, Neb., November 5, 2026 – Orion, the premier provider of transformative wealthtech solutions for financial advisors and the enterprise firms that serve them, today announced a transition support package for advisors affected by new custody asset minimums, including introductory platform fee waivers, help offsetting switching costs, and hands-on transition support. Delivered through Orion Portfolio Solutions (OPS), the program gives firms a simple path forward, with technology, investment and operations support and flexible custody options designed to protect client relationships and lower the cost of making a change.

A Simple Path Forward for Your Clients and Your Practice

If you’re an advisor affected by new custody minimums, you’re weighing more than logistics. Will a move disrupt your clients? What unexpected costs will it bring? And what does it mean for the independence and future of the firm you’ve built?

Orion has built a process to answer those questions and make the move simple. For many firms, OPS can keep client assets where they are today, so the transition can take as little as a single client signature, with minimal disruption for your clients. Our team handles account opening, agreement amendments, and data conversion, so you can stay focused on your client relationships.

Every conversation starts with the tradeoffs: what a change means for your clients, how it fits your investment approach, and which responsibilities you want to keep or outsource. There’s no single operating model that works for every firm, so we’ll help you find the approach that fits your goals and protects your independence, with custody solutions that fit your practice and position your firm for growth.

“Changes in custody requirements shouldn't limit an advisor's ability to serve clients or grow their firm,” said Ron Pruitt, President of Orion Wealth Management. “We're stepping forward with meaningful financial support, flexible solutions, and the expertise to make this transition easier. But this is about more than navigating change. It's about helping independent advisors build stronger, more scalable firms and creating new opportunities for growth.”

Transition Assistance That Lowers the Cost of Change

Orion is offering eligible firms assistance in three areas, which may include:

Financial Incentives

  • Introductory platform fee relief. Orion Portfolio Solutions Platform (Administrative Fee) waived for the second and third quarters of 2027 (April 1 through September 30, 2027) on accounts that transition by March 31, 2027. Standard fees apply before and after that period.
  • Help with switching costs. For a limited time, Orion will help offset early termination fees on an existing portfolio accounting contract for full-practice conversions, up to a cap.
  • Custody and transaction costs covered. These costs are included in the Orion Portfolio Solutions administration fee, which can mean meaningful annual savings for many firms.
  • A simpler tech stack. On Orion Portfolio Solutions (OPS), firms may no longer need to maintain a separate portfolio accounting platform, so that annual expense could go away.

Transition Support

  • Flexible custody options. Keep your current custodian through OPS or move to another OPS-integrated custodian, with Orion helping cover transfer fees.
  • Complimentary Portfolio Opportunity Analysis. Orion’s investment consultants review your current portfolios to identify concentration, overlap, and risk exposures, and model scenarios that could improve client outcomes.
  • Written transition plan. Receive a household-level plan designed to help manage portfolio disruption during the transition, including potential paths for repositioning clients into your practice model on a timeline you control.
  • Join us at Orion Ascent 2027. Qualifying firms evaluating Orion Portfolio Solutions are invited to Orion Ascent 2027, our annual client conference, to continue their platform due diligence in person, with registration and hotel provided for eligible firm principals.

Investment and operational capabilities

  • Flexible investment options. Eligible holdings may transfer in kind, and advisors can manage Rep-as-PM sleeves alongside OPS-managed strategies, potentially reducing the need for liquidation.
  • Tax-aware transition support. Orion’s tax-management capabilities can help firms reposition portfolios on a client-appropriate timeline, potentially reducing unnecessary liquidation and managing tax impact.

Eligibility requirements and terms apply. Talk with our team to see what your firm qualifies for and how it might apply to your practice.

Turn Change Into Capacity for Growth

A custodian change is also a good moment to look ahead. What does your firm need for its next chapter, and how can the right combination of technology, investment and operations support, and custody help you get there?

An outsourcing partner can make running a practice simpler by taking on investment management and day-to-day operations, work that takes significant time and resources, especially for smaller firms. That frees you to stay focused on your clients while keeping ownership of your business.

Through OPS, advisors get one partner for the work that often pulls time away from clients:

  • Onboarding and repapering. We manage the paperwork and the conversion, so your clients have a simple experience.
  • Investment management support. Access to a broad selection of models and strategies through Orion’s open-architecture platform.
  • Operations and technology. Trading, reporting, and billing run on the OPS platform, creating more capacity for business development and growth.

The goal is flexible, simple evolution, with your client relationships at the center.
