Leverage Orion capabilities from Orion Reporting to Redtail CRM insights

One question in. A complete, sourced answer back — built from the same data your firm already trusts.

Claude's home screen with Orion's MCP connector enabled. An advisor has typed: find my activities and outstanding opportunities and create a dashboard indicating the status of these along with recommended actions.

Ask in plain language. No data exports required, no switching systems.

Claude's response: an Activities and Pipeline Dashboard built live from Redtail CRM, showing open opportunities, pipeline value, overdue activities, and a recommended next action for each opportunity.

Get a working answer. Live pipeline, overdue activities and recommended next actions — pulled straight from Redtail CRM.

One conversation instead of three systems

Preparing for a single client conversation often means pulling reports from one system, checking relationship history in another, and reassembling the context by hand. Orion's connector collapses that work into one conversation. The advisor asks, and CoPilot puts the answer together from the same data the firm already trusts.

The connector respects an advisor's existing Orion Connect and Redtail permissions while giving firms firmwide controls and governance over access, so advisors see only what they are entitled to see.

Orion's MCP connector is available now in Orion's Certified connector is available now in CoPilot’s Cowork Plugin directory.

What advisors can do with it

Built for advisors, advisory teams, and operations staff who want to spend less of the day assembling information. At launch, it supports four everyday tasks.

01 · Meeting prep

Walk into a client meeting already prepared

Ask for a client update and get performance, holdings, recent activity, and relationship history pulled together into a meeting agenda with proposed talking points, rather than assembling it from multiple systems beforehand.

02 · Follow-up

Leave a meeting with follow-ups already written up

Turn meeting notes into a clean summary with clearly identified action items, owners, and next steps, so nothing is lost between the conversation and the CRM.

03 · Pipeline

See where the business stands without building a report

Get a read on the opportunity pipeline, what is progressing, what has stalled, and what is close, plus a prioritized list of prospects and clients worth reaching out to next.

04 · Reporting

Get to the point of a report faster

Point CoPilot at a report and get the notable activity called out, with talking points ready for the next client or team conversation.

Manage your users and their specific access through the Orion Gateway Portal

Firmwide controls and governance over who can reach what. Entitlements come from your product catalog, so every advisor sees only what they are entitled to see.

The Orion Gateway Portal sign-in screen, where a firm administrator signs in to manage access.

Single, governed front door. Firm administrators sign in to the Orion Gateway Portal to manage access.

The MCP entitlements screen in the Orion Gateway, listing the resources and call limits included with a firm's products. Each tool is labeled read-only or writes, alongside per-minute rate limits and daily quotas.

Resource-level entitlements. See exactly which MCP tools a product includes, which are read-only versus write, plus rate limits and daily quotas.

  • Entitlements follow your product catalog. Access is derived from what the firm already owns, not managed as a separate list.
  • Read-only and write access are distinguished per tool. Administrators can see which MCP tools a product includes and what each one is permitted to do.
  • Rate limits and daily quotas are visible per resource. Usage stays governed at the firm level.

A front door to Orion for firms building their own AI

The same connection that powers the connector is built so firms can connect their own AI to Orion, with Orion serving as the front door to the data and workflows advisors already run their businesses on. Firms early in their AI work can start with Orion's Certified Connector for CoPilot, and firms ready to build their own, can connect directly.

How Orion's connector works

Orion's connector links CoPilot to two Orion systems. CoPilot uses those connections to read and bring together information the advisor already has permission to see.

Orion Connect

Where the firm's portfolio and account data lives — performance, holdings, households, and reporting.

Redtail CRM

Relationship history, activities, notes, and the opportunity pipeline.

Orion

Data Access & Security

The Orion Certified Connector for CoPilot is not enabled by default. Access requires a deliberate action by a firm's designated technical administrator through the Orion Denali Gateway Portal. If a firm does not enable the connector, data within Orion and Redtail is not made available through the connector. The connector operates using each user's existing Orion Connect and Redtail permissions and does not create additional access to data.

Because MCP responses through the Orion Denali Gateway Portal can include real client data if enabled, we recommend firms reviewing and configuring any connected AI platform according to their own policies regarding privacy, retention, access controls, and data usage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the connector available now?

Yes. The Orion Connector is available through Microsoft's CoPilot Cowork plugin directory now.

Who is it designed for?

It is designed for advisors, advisory teams and operations staff who want to spend less time assembling information. Firm administrators and compliance leaders also have a role in governing access through the Orion Denali Gateway Portal.

What can advisors do with it at launch?

The initial workflows support meeting preparation, meeting follow-up, pipeline review and report analysis.

What is the Orion Denali Gateway Portal?

It is the firm’s central control point for external tool connections. Firm administrators can review entitlements, manage users and resource access, view applicable limits and usage, troubleshoot connection issues, and revoke access when needed.

Who can administer access?

A firm’s designated technical administrators manage external tool access. Advisor and representative users can authorize their accounts and connect an approved external client, but they cannot grant themselves access to resources the firm has not entitled.

Why is a separate Gateway user required?

The Gateway user is intended to connect user accounts established for Orion products. New Gateway terms and conditions apply when the user establishes and authorizes the account.

How much does it cost?

Redtail access is launching at $15 per user per month. Orion Connect access is launching in a pre-commercial preview at no additional cost (for up to 25 users per firm). Future Orion Connect pricing and packaging will be evaluated during the preview and have not been finalized.

How many Orion Connect users can participate in the preview?

The current launch guidance allows up to 25 users per firm at base rate limits.

Can firms change rate limits or add resources in the Gateway Portal?

Not directly in the Portal. Limits and available resources come from the product catalog. Firms that need higher limits should contact mcp-support@orion.com.

What if a firm does not connect both Redtail and Orion Connect?

Orion's Certified Connector for CoPilot is designed to support manual input or uploaded information when a connected product is not authorized or is not part of the firm’s technology stack.

For broker-dealer-affiliated advisors, does Orion require broker-dealer approval, and is there documentation for broker-dealer review?

The Orion Certified Connector for CoPilot provides access to your data within Redtail, similar to API access that is supported within broker-dealer agreements. That said, we recommend validating with your affiliated broker-dealer, and your firm’s own regulatory and compliance requirements and standards before exploring this option with us.

What level of access does Orion Certified Connector for CoPilot have to my firm’s data?

Orion Certified Connector for CoPilot is designed for firms that are utilizing the CoPilot platform and, have configured their own use and access in a manner that ensures the protection and security of that data. Neither Orion nor Redtail will enable these connectors for any firms or users of our platforms. Enablement and use of the connectors requires a deliberate action by your firm's designated technical administrator in the Orion Denali Gateway Portal. It cannot be enabled by an individual user, by Redtail, or by Orion. If you take no action, no client data of yours goes anywhere, today or at any point in the future.

For firms that enable the connector, it will operate under each user’s existing Orion Connect and Redtail permissions. The Denali Gateway Portal governs how existing access reaches an external tool; it does not broaden access.

Because MCP responses through the Orion Denali Gateway Portal can include real client data, we recommend that you connect through an enterprise or business account for CoPilot, or another AI provider, and ensure that all settings and configurations within the AI provider’s platform are configured as your firm intends them to be from a data security, privacy, access, retention, and training perspective.

Orion's CoPilot Flow

How does the Orion Certified Connector for CoPilot support compliance and recordkeeping requirements?

The Orion Certified Connector for CoPilot provides controls for user access, available MCP tools, and MCP tool activity through the Orion Denali Gateway Portal. Orion can track which users have access, which tools are available to them, and how those tools are being used. Activities that occur within CoPilot, such as prompts, skills used, and generated responses, are managed and retained within the CoPilot environment. Firms should review and configure any connected AI platform according to their own policies regarding privacy, retention, access controls, and data usage.

How does the Orion Certified Connector for CoPilot differ from Denali AI?

The Orion Certified Connector for CoPilot enables firms to access Orion and Redtail data within CoPilot, allowing advisors to leverage CoPilot's capabilities and create their own prompts and workflows. Denali AI is Orion's native AI experience, designed to deliver AI-powered insights and workflows directly within Orion. Firms looking for AI capabilities fully managed within the Orion ecosystem may prefer Denali AI, while firms that want to leverage CoPilot with Orion and Redtail data may find value in the Orion Certified Connector for CoPilot. Many firms may choose to use both solutions for different use cases.

When will the connector be available for Orion Trading, Orion Planning, and/or Orion Portfolio Solutions?

The current release includes tools for Orion Connect and Redtail. We plan to continue expanding the Orion Gateway and will evaluate future integrations based on client feedback and demand. While we don't have specific timelines to share, we're actively exploring additional products and capabilities.
