Portfolio and CRM data now flow into Copilot, helping advisors prepare, analyze, and create without leaving Microsoft 365
Orion has teamed up with Microsoft to launch the Orion plugin for Microsoft Copilot. Beginning to roll out through the Microsoft plugin registry, Orion’s plugin lets advisors request client updates, meeting preparation, and portfolio summaries in plain language using their firm’s Orion data.
The plugin brings Orion Connect portfolio data and Redtail CRM records into the Microsoft 365 tools advisory firms already use, reducing manual data transfers and duplicated work. It honors each user’s Orion and Redtail permissions and operates within the firm’s Microsoft 365 security and governance controls.
“Advisors already spend their day in Microsoft 365, writing the email, building the spreadsheet, preparing the client review. What's been missing is the data that makes that work useful, and that data lives in Orion,” said Reed Colley, President of Orion Advisor Technology. “Bringing Orion into Copilot means an advisor can stay in the tools they know and still work from the numbers their firm trusts and governs.”
Where advisors can use it
Through the Microsoft plugin registry, advisors and operations teams will be able to use the plugin to:
- Copilot Cowork. Assemble meeting briefs from portfolio data and relationship history.
- Copilot. Summarize performance, holdings, recent activity, and follow-ups.
- Excel. Analyze account and holdings data without exporting and reformatting reports.
- Word and PowerPoint. Draft client summaries, agendas, and presentations grounded in Orion data.
- Analyst and Researcher. Analyze Orion data alongside internal firm content.
- Copilot Studio. Build firm-specific agents using existing permissions and controls.
Part of Orion's open approach to AI
The plugin advances Orion’s open AI strategy: giving firms secure access to their data and workflows in the tools they choose. It follows Orion’s September launch of its connector for Claude for Financial Advisors. Firms building their own AI can connect through the Orion Denali Gateway Portal.
“Firms own their data. That commitment hasn’t changed, and it’s why firms can adopt new technology knowing their data stays under their control,” Colley said. “From more granular data access and the Denali Gateway Portal to AI services, agents, and orchestration that move work across systems, we’re building the foundation for advisors and our providers to put AI to work securely and responsibly. Whether a firm’s team works in Copilot, Claude, or its own tools, Orion meets them there.”
