Rusty

Rusty Vanneman serves as the Chief Investment Strategist for Orion, bringing over 35 years of experience in the investment industry. In his role, Rusty develops insightful market- and platform-related content designed to foster deeper, more meaningful conversations with advisors and investors. He also educates internal and external audiences on Orion Portfolio Solutions' strategies and resources to help achieve favorable investment outcomes and identifies new investment opportunities to meet the growing demands of the marketplace.

Rusty is the host of Orion’s The Weighing Machine weekly podcast and the monthly Weighing the Risks podcast. He is also the author of Higher Calling: A Guide to Helping Investors Achieve Their Goals. Throughout his career, Rusty has led multiple investment teams and managed a range of mutual funds, hedge funds, and investment strategies. 

Previously, Rusty served as Chief Investment Officer of Orion Wealth Management and as President and Chief Investment Officer of CLS Investments. Prior to joining Orion in 2012, he held the position of Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director at Kobren Insight Management in the greater Boston area. During his 11-year tenure there, the firm was owned by ETRADE Financial for five years, where Rusty also served as Senior Market Strategist for ETRADE Capital. Earlier in his career, Rusty was a Senior Analyst at Fidelity Management and Research’s Strategic Advisors in Boston. 

Rusty holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from Babson College, where he graduated with High Distinction. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) and a member of the CFA Institute, a Chartered Market Technician® (CMT) and a member of the Market Technicians Association (MTA), as well as a Behavioral Financial Advisor (BFA). 

Rusty is also dedicated to community service and is actively involved in the TeamMates Mentoring Program.

Meet Ben Vaske

Ben Vaske serves as an Investment Strategist at Orion. Ben helps to research and analyze the current strategies for Orion’s wealth management offerings, as well as help to identify new investment offerings to meet marketplace demand. Ben also produces relevant content about Orion and financial markets to help educate and inform internal and external Orion audiences.

Ben received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with emphases in both finance and accounting. Ben received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to Orion, Ben worked on the Finance team at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska.

Ben is a CFA level II candidate and holds the Behavioral Financial Advisor (BFA) designation as well as the Digital Assets Council of Financial Professionals (DACFP) designation.
